Alibaba Founder Jack Ma Can Paint Debuts In Sotheby Auction As An Artist
Jack Ma has created a painting along with Zeng Fanzhi that will be auction at Sotheby's in Hong Kong.
Alibaba Group Holding is the biggest tech company in the world. In fact, it is one of the biggest and largest e-commerce businesses that are ruling not only in China but around world. However, the founder of the company, Jack Ma, already insisted that his plans and vision is to expand and grow this business in every part of the world and outside the e-commerce industry as well.
The company has been involved in cloud computing business and entered the entertainment industry. Overall, it has been doing tremendous business in the tech sector. Jack Ma is occupied apart from its main Alibaba online marketplaces as well. According to Bloomberg, the founder of the company has emerged and made a debut as a painter/artist in Hong Kong auction.
Mr. Ma worked with Zeng Fanzhi, a renowned Chinese artist, to create a painting that will be auctioned at Hong Kong’s Sotheby. According to sources, it is believed that it can earn as much as $322,000 (HK$2.5 million) for a painting that will be donated to the charity.
The painting created in collaboration is called as ‘Paradise’, which initially started in 2014. It is made using oil on a canvas. The founder of Alibaba Group stated in the catalog, “This is the first time I’ve painted, and to have been able to do it with Fanzhi -- I am deeply honored. Together we have created an earth: to protect the earth, to protect the oceans, to protect the air.”
Zeng Fanzhi is known as one of the most preeminent contemporary artists of China. His well renowned painting, The Last Supper, was outclass and managed to set a record of selling at a massive value of $23.3 million in 2013 at Sotheby’s auction.
The painting in collaboration will be on display from October 2 to October 7 at a Modern and Contemporary Asian Evening Art Sale, which will be a part of Sotheby’s fall sale. Apart from this painting, other products will also be auctioned, such as wine, furniture, jewelry, watches, ceramics, etc.
The event will take place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. It will first begin with the sales of wine that will also have a three liter bottle of jeroboam of Romanee-Conti Domaine de la Romanee-Conti 2006 from Burgundy valued in the range of $36,000 to $50,000 (HK$ 280,000 – 400,000).
