Amazon Opens First Brick And Mortar Bookstore
Amazon opens its own physical bookstore for the first time for Amazon books in its hometown, Seattle, on Tuesday.
Amazon is getting into the brick and mortar business by opening it first physical store ever, a bookstore so that the retailer can be able to sell more books in Seattle. The new bookstore is stocked with Amazon books. The company is switching from its roots and moving to brick and mortar as well as e-commerce. It had books in its category of products that it had sold for many years.
Books proved to be in demand and the company achieved a good amount of sales online from it. Consequently, it became a huge competition for booksellers online as well. Due to the huge success of books online, it made a decision to open its first ever store consisting of books.
The bookstore in Seattle is an extension of Amazon’s online market, which will have the same prices in both the outlets. The variety of books is vast with a choice of 6000 top listed bestseller titles. This is not good news for bookstores because the multinational rival will be a huge competition in business now.
Amazon has an advantage over other bookstores because its online market will help it to generate huge data regarding the customers shopping behavior and their demand through the website. It can use this data to decide what to put on the shelves of its fresh bookstore for the locals. This will also prevent the company from facing a problem that most stores do. Some books are never sold and eventually are sent back. The insight of customer demand will make a huge contribution to the success of the physical store.
The online shopping providers’ vice president, Jennifer Cast, said, “We hope this is not our only one. But we’ll see.” The opening of the store witnessed by customers reported that the books that were on display also had cards, which had the books rating and reviews. The company did this so that the customers can later decide and choose what they desire and place orders for the product online later.
Amazon’s book business will achieve huge success due to this recent progress. It is already dominant online in the sales of e-books. This store, according to WSJ, is more of an experiment; if it achieves the expected success, it might consider opening more brick and mortar outlets in other locations. Warehouses close by will be used to stock the fresh store.
Amazon is a publisher of books as well but it has faced problems acquiring booksellers to stock its own titles. Through its physical store, it can now display and sell any such books.
Amazon stock closed at $625.31
