Alibaba Explains How Mobile Booking and Billing Is Redefining Chinese Travel

Alibaba travel division, Alitrip, will change the perception of how to travel outside China through its services.

Alibaba Group Holding is capitalizing on every business category to become the biggest company in the world. The Chinese tech business is commonly known as one of the biggest online retailers in the world, which sells almost everything on its platform. It owns and runs various platforms, including business-to-business (B2B) platforms, such as alibaba.com, and business-to-consumer platforms, such as Taobao. It also runs a mobile payment service and owns a huge cloud computing business as well.

All of these segments are considered as the company’s core businesses but behind the curtains, Alibaba Group is pushing to make an impact in another business category. It is actively working on its project, Alitrip, through which it is redefining Chinese travel.

A reputable analyst, Andrew Sheivachman, said, “More Chinese travelers than ever before are traveling to the U.S. and Alitrip is looking to provide custom, mobile-booked itineraries through its relationship with North American hotels, airlines and tour operators.”

He further added that Alibaba’s travel business is receiving great help from the parent company, which is eventually allowing Alitrip to compete in one of the busiest and toughest travel market in the world. Chinese travel market is quite expanded and diversified. Chief Strategy Officer of the Chinese company, Sherri Wu, told that her company is working to attract the country’s massive 1.3 billion travelers through its service. She thoroughly explained on how mobile booking and billing is redefining the traveling experience of China.

It is believed that Alibaba’s travel division is looking for opportunities to join hands and work with the travel service providers and tour operators of the United States. The firm on Monday at a conference in Los Angeles espoused the business prospects of increased Chinese travel to the U.S.

The CEO of Travel Association of the United States, Roger Dow, stated at the event that according to his research, at least five million Chinese travelers would visit America in the coming four years. Sherri Wu added that Alitrip looks forward to collaborate with the industry giants, such as Marriott International, InterContinental Hotels Group, Starwood Hotels, etc., to further allow the travel division to benefit from the increasing trend of Chinese traveling to the United States.

Apart from this, Alibaba signed a deal with one of the domestic tour operators, American Tours International, at the conference in Los Angeles. The advancement in technology is shaping every aspect of tourism and hospitality industry for travelers.
