Amazon Must Make Prime Video Simple
In order to directly compete against Netflix, Amazon Prime Video has to make its service simpler.
On Monday, Amazon Inc. announced that its Prime Video service will finally go on a monthly subscription in order to get more customers on board. Its direct rival in the streaming industry, just raised prices on its standard streaming plan and many of the customers are not happy with this move. Therefore the online retailer feels this of as a great opportunity to cash in customers who leave Netflix to find a better and cheaper alternative. The monthly subscription plan will put Prime Video in direct competition with the market leader, Netflix.
There are several ways in which Amazon seems as one of the strongest options. To begin with, Amazon Prime Video, as its gone monthly, is now cheaper and for $8.99 it offers a better content catalog to its customers. Viewers say that Amazon has a better movie selection than Netflix these days. Furthermore, Prime Video offers its own original programming as well and offers free access to most of the HBO content as well. All in all, if a viewer wants to invest in Amazon’s on demand video streaming subscription then it will not be a bad choice at all.
The monthly subscription plan came out at just a right time when Netflix struggle holding on to the customers amid price hike. Until now, the service came as a bundled benefit of the annual Prime subscription which cost $99. But the company realized that not all would want to spend $99 yearly to get video streaming.
The Prime Video service now seems to be the most preferred option for viewers to make a year long commitment to without thinking to subscribe for the annual Prime membership. With an amazing content line up, Netflix feels threatened. The Seattle based firm is known to become the best in whatever field it is expanded in. The company dominates the US e-commerce sector as well as the cloud computing industry through Amazon Web Services (AWS).
However one thing that might hurt the growth of Prime Video is its complexity. Amazon finally felt that Prime Video is substantial enough to be a standalone streaming product. It is less simple than Netflix which might be a problem for customers. Analysts believe that the company should take steps to make things simpler with the Prime Video service if it wants to compete with the streaming giant as well as dethrone it as the leader. Amazon will have to act fast as Netflix price hike effect would stay for a couple of months only. Being a true global TV network, Netflix will get over things but Amazon has a proper chance to hurt Netflix.
