Alphabet Joins Forces With Fiat Chrysler For Its Autonomous Car Venture
Alphabet and Fiats Chrysler to become the next automotive disruption in the world of autonomous cars.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is all set to make history by making the biggest deal since its inception. The company has plans to make the autonomous driving car segment of Alphabet Inc. as its supplier. The automotive industry is on the verge of experiencing a massive breakthrough if the news surfaced by the Wall Street Journal regarding the collaboration of Alphabet Inc. and Fiat Chrysler has any significance whatsoever.
The news floated via the Wall Street Journal who cited a source having knowledge of the matter. Along with that, CNBC and AutoExtremist.com also had a similar approach backed by the Dow Jones report.
The source also highlighted that the negotiations between the two companies are on their final stage and have been taking place since quite a few months. if these reports have any significance then Fiat Chrysler who is said to be the third largest seller in the United States has geared up to embrace a massive leap in the autonomous car domain by buying the top notch technology developed by the search engine giant.
Google has been doing a sound research on its driverless cars for the past six annum and has also conducted successful tests spanning a million miles.
Most of the automotive industry analysts are of the view that GOOG will be the first company to surface fully autonomous vehicles on the roads considering the in depth technological knowledge and experience it has in this field. Taking in consideration the extreme potential of self-driven cars, the tech behemoth decided to make this segment a standalone unit last fall.
Apart from that, key automotive giants like Toyota, Tesla and General Motors Company have been battling it out amongst each to debut the first autonomous vehicle. At this point, Fiat is extremely behind them in its efforts but Mr. Sergio Marchionne, the President and Chief Executive Officer of the company is a staunch advocate of self-driven cars. He has always supported Mr. Elon Musk in the production of autonomous cars.
Over the past couple of months, Mr. Marchionne is hunting for opportunities with tech and automotive companies for a possible merger. This is being done to minimize the production cost and research and development (R&D) expenses for the advancement of the automotive industry. he has been striving since a relatively long time to push General Motors and Detroit into a merger but so far all his efforts have been in vain. He has also shown interest in collaborating with tech companies such as Apple and Alphabet so that he can make the best use of the resources in the auto industry and then gains the best returns out of them.
At this point of time, Alphabet is not interested in transforming itself into an automaker. So this means, the company will not retail cars under its brand name but will offer the automotive industry with its technology. Thus, the collaboration between the two giants is expected to be done soon. However, Fiat Chrysler certainly needs to pace up.
